We arrived at 2:00 AM after a long flight, and the apartment was perfect — modern, clean, and just 3 minutes by taxi from the airport.
Late check-out at 12:00 PM gave us time to rest before heading to our next hotel.

It is a shame to stay only one night, what I did after arriving late at the airport. The apartment is extremely nice, clean and looks exactly as advertised. although I met no one since I had to leave early in the morning, Fotini was very helpful in finding a nice late night food location. Will definitely come back.
One Note of caution: one of the major advantages is that it is only a 15 minute walk from the airport. By the time I had taken a shower and was on my way to a taverna, most people were still waiting for their luggage (seriously, I only had carry on luggage). I did not care, but be aware that although the house is not in the flight path, expect noise from departing planes, if you open the windows.

Excellent property. Scrupulously clean, comfortable, good facilities. I was only there one night but there was a washing machine and a good fridge freezer etc if you were there longer. Good location, supermarket close by. It’s close to airport but also for centre or access elsewhere. I found road parking easily.

Super friendly hosts. They couldn't do enough for us, even though we'd interupted their evening with a last minute booking. We were provided with watermelon and local cheese to refresh us after a long night and the apartment was really lovely with some unique and sea-side type features. There is a lovely big garden, free wifi and air-con. There is a cafe and bar near-by. Perfectly situated for the airport. Everything we needed to make our stay comfortable.

Karteros is a convenient location, especially because it’s close to the airport. The beach has some organized areas with sunbeds, but it gets very busy during the summer peak season, particularly on Sundays when many locals also head to the beaches. The sunbeds tend to get taken quickly, so if you miss out, you can still relax on the sand—but bringing your own umbrella is a good idea for some shade.

The city is clean (no litter !!) and the food a and drink is excellent
Culturally - this is superb - if ancient history and tall tales of greek mythology are of interest - the museums are well laid out and tourist groups "directed"
One significant and pleasant item is that if you are an EU resident and 65 plus you get reduced entry fees into the national museums and attractions ( ID needed)

Very central location with easy access to the center of Heraklion (approx. 5-10 min walk). Very accessible also to the free municipal parking (10 minutes). In addition, be careful of parking right near the stay, there is no parking allowed, so there is a risk of a ticket. You also have a bus station 1 min walk from the entrance door.
The neighborhood is very safe at night, no problems whatsoever.

We were initially reluctant about the close distance between the airport and the hotel (due to the low planes) but not only were the planes quite a joy to see but it also gave us more time on our holiday and less time faffing about with transfers. The hotel itself was beautiful and all facilities were immaculate and well thought through. The choice of food and drink throughout our stay was wonderful and varied from one meal/day to the next. The staff were all highly professional, friendly and accommodating and we couldn’t have asked for more other than an extra week! We would highly recommend and would love to come again!

Our visit to Knossos and the Archeological Museum made our trip very worthwhile. Heraklion itself - very noisy, busy, a bit chaotic, a bit scruffy.
In town centre were nice pedestrian streets with loads of nice restaurants and bars. We could have just drinks or coffees or small plates or full meals, so it was flexible and people were nice.
All loo facilities were excellent.
Bus service great - buy a day ticket 5 euros.

Heraklio is the Big City on Crete. That said and while it is lovely there are more enjoyable towns and getting around is relatively easy. 4 -5 days in Heraklio was enough for us and the lure of other Cretan places was greater. Overall the Cretan people are mostly welcoming which is heartening given the numbers of tourists going there that must drive them crazy at times!
