We loved the warmth, openness of the main living area . The whole lodge was so clean and we could see how much the owners took pride in their property .

We were met at the house by the very friendly hostess and shown how to use stuff like wi-fi and heating. Although we were only there for one night it was very well equipped and catered for all ages. I woud definitey stay there again and look forward to it. Very convenient if you are catching the ferry since it is right by the harbour

This was a lovely clean and convenient place to stay. It is right on the sea front a couple of hundred meters from the ferry to Ullapool. If you arrive in to Stornaway late of have an early ferry to Ullapool then this place is really convenient. The owner was lovely to talk to and a very helpful person.
It was good value for money and I would stay again

This review is more about Lewis and Harris, Sandwick is a small suburb of Stornaway. It has an interesting memorial to HMS Iolaire. We spent 4 nights on the island. Although the weather was pretty awful, the island is lovely and we spent a fair bit of time touring Lewis and Harris. The Butt of Lewis is nice and there is a lovely walk to Eoropie bay with lovely sandy beach. We are interested in birds and found Red necked Phalorope, GND, Red throated Diver, Golden Eagle, Guillemots, Fulmars etc. Take the drive across Pentland Road it is lovely and good for birds. Sadly we didn't really have raptor weather (lots of rain). Stornaway is a bit limited - if you want to dine out book well ahead as there aren't many places and they fill up quickly. We enjoyed the Boatshed at the Royal Hotel for dinner. EVERYTHING closes on Sunday (including most of the petrol stations so beware).

We loved our accommodation at Coleil Cottage and the area in general. It was a good base for travelling to the North or South of the island. Being next to the coast, it was a great area for whale and dolphin watching. There were many wild birds, including cuckoos and even rabbits and chickens in our garden.

Trish and Stewart were were hospitable hosts , an immaculately decorated and presented B&B , very much different from the 1960s when I toured with my parents. We would highly recommend 43 to coming guests.

Stornoway is a busy wee town full of independent shops. I particularly like An Taigh Ceilidh where you are encouraged to practise your Gàidhlig.
Only downside there are a few one-way streets which are confusing / frustrating if you don't know where you're going.

Sandwick was pretty quiet but it was just outside of Stornoway which was good enough for us as the property was nice and cosy. Most of the sights we went to see was out with sandwick, more stornoway and further afield. So I’m not reviewing sandwick. The property location was fine for us to travel to and from what we wanted to see

Great beds and pillows, towels and dressings gowns. Hot tub & front step needs a handrail ( for older guests) great facilities. Only one toilet but ok for family use. Would definitely go back. We loved it.

It’s great for beautiful walks, veiwing the local wildlife (sheep & lambs, alpacas, highland cows).
The beaches are beautiful and there are plenty to choose from.
You do need transport as the bus services are few & far between.
Lots of history attached to the island, so plenty to places to visit & learn. Also the lics are so friendly too! ☺️

There’s not much to see and do in Stornoway but it is an excellent base for exploring Lewis and Harris. It was easy to reach the main tourist spots of Ness, Callanish, Carloway and Gearrannan Blackhouse Village. Also not far to experience the stunning scenery of Harris including the famous Luskentyre Beach.
In Stornoway itself, the walk to the Iolaire Monument and the visit to the Lewis Castle Museum were both worth doing.
The best place for lunch was Lantair.

Book your meals in Stornoway in advance, busy even on a Tuesday. Also make sure you don't try to pack too many activities into one day, if using local buses. They can be few and far between, although they arrived as per timetables. Boatshed good place to eat and drink. Thai cafe also nice food but no alcohol licence, so take your own bottle.
