Hotel was very busy at breakfast with a wedding party . We were told about this in advance and staff were most helpful. Although very busy and stretched they were polite and courteous throughout.

Really cosy cabin with everything we needed. Lovely location with great view of the stars. We loved the fire pit and we're really grateful to Helen's husband for helping us light it. The online guide we were sent was really useful too.

The Alton area is lovely for walks, dogs paddling in chalk streams and visiting Jane Austen's village of Chawton - don't miss Chawton House. It's also very convenient for Farnham, Winchester and the gorgeous Meon Valley.

I would recommend a visit to Chawton and a little visit into Alton. Especially if you like reading about Jane Austen.
To walk in her footsteps and visit the places she did was very interesting and the only dull thing on our trip was the weather which reminded us that Jane walked this Road many times to the shops and post office in all conditions.
We had lunch in the French Horn pub in Alton and then walked back to Chawton.

The Hotel is situated in a excellent position for shopping at Festival Place and the bars and restaurants. Staff were friendly and polite and delt with any queries in a professional manner. Rooms were of a good size and the beds were really comfy. The bar area is nice and the meals are reasonably priced, breakfast is plenty full the only down side was the cooked options were lukewarm.
Overall an excellent stay at the Red Lion hotel.

Lovely village with beautiful properties, 3 pubs and a great Italian restaurant, as well as a handful of good independent shops (antiques, homewards/florist, pharmacy, convenience stores, cafes). Nice walks in the area including a castle ruin. Boat hire available on the river. Overall the perfect place to spend a few days as a base to the wider area.

It is in a good location for sightseeing and central for country pursuits, also not far from Winchester,Jane Austen’s house and Selbourne which is also very interesting.

Clean and tidy with a mixture of new and old buildings and a lot of history.
There are some good gentle walks. Pubic transport is not very good.
Dining out can be expensive but the food and experience are worth it.

I loved my stay at the Alton House Hotel, as I have never been to Alton before the staff were polite friendly and extremely helpful, I also made two new friends whilst I was there which is truly fantastic. I would recommend this hotel to any one that asked as in my eye's there is no better place or people.
