Such a beautiful place on a beautiful island. The host Lin and her husband Adam were lovely. I was looked after and made to feel at home. Highly recommend this spot!

Jon was very welcoming and helpful, from letting us leave the bags in the B&B while finishing the cycling the next day, to cooking a delicious dinner for us. The dining room has stunning views over the coastline. I'll be back for sure!

The property had an amazing view from the kitchen and all the rooms were very clean and comfortable. Amazing bathtub and walk in shower. The TV sitting room with the giant window allowed us to enjoy the sunset and a prismatic available let us admire the birds passing by. The available coffee beans and grinder were an extra very welcomed gift

The house was so clean and spacious and such a handy location. Everything we could have possibly needed was in the house. We came with our 3 and 1 year old kids who both loved the little books and were able to walk around freely knowing the sockets were baby proofed. We really enjoyed our stay and hope to come back for a longer stay (and in better weather).

Backaskaill Farmhouse was the best holiday home we ever stayed. Its interior was impeccably designed, with every detail thoughtfully considered to create a harmonious and inviting atmosphere. One highlight was the private beach, where we could bask in the sun and enjoy the beauty of the coastline and the local wildlife of Sanday. To top it all off, the kind and attentive host made our stay even more delightful by helping us with everything and welcoming us with coffee, cake, fresh flowers and treats for our dog.

Quiet harbour village on an Orkney Island with a good hotel that has a restraunt and bar. There are two well stocked general merchants and a very good fish shop. Very attractive and peaceful to visit.

You have to switch to a different mode of operation when you get to Westray, everything happens at a slower pace.
Pierowall is the main town on the island with a couple of shops, a hotel and a handful of B&B's (plus some camping). The town is situated around a bay where seals climb up the sloped sea breaks and lounge around, seemingly unbothered by people. It is geographically in the middle(ish) of Westray so makes a good base to explore the island or get to the airport for the world's shortest scheduled commercial flight (about 80 seconds) to Papa Westray where we were lucky enough to see puffins.
One thing of note is the shop in Pierowall. It is a typical island shop selling everytning from silicone sealant to eggs, but it has a bizzarely comprehensive range of gluten-free products available.
All in all there's nothing to not love about Westray and Pierowall. It's a fantastic place wiht a relaxed pace and everyone we met was really friendly.
