Castletown had lots of back alleys, viewpoints and museums...
Castletown had lots of back alleys, viewpoints and museums plus the local bus service stopped in the town square. There was quite a bit to watch with several motorbikes setting off and a pipe band there today.
Castle Rushen dominates with a very pretty little harbour and several museums as well as the steam train leaving quite close by.
It was very pretty and much more interesting than Douglas. We arrived by ferry and the bus journey was lovely from Douglas to Castletown. We flew out from Ronaldsway airport which was walking distance and has the best small military museums that I have ever been to.
Can't rate the town highly enough.

Going at the end of season , the whole island was quiet, meaning a relaxing time to visit places , the roads too . If you like walking it’s paradise ,with views to match .though the weather wasn’t brilliant it didn’t put you off going out . A regular bus service to Douglas ( 1 hour ) comfy too , Locals very warm and friendly

I have visited the IOM since 2007 and have visited/stayed in Castletown on a number of occasions.A quiet picture postcard place .I would reccomend a visit to the Castle
Lovely local shops bars restaurants /cafes.
Castletown is the home to The Southern 100 motorcycle races in early July for 5 days each year .so best to avoid if not your interest 🏍🏍🏍🏍🏍
If you're planning a trip to the IOM Castletown is a great base point after arriving on the ferry in Douglas .

Friendly people, beautiful bay.
Friendly people, beautiful bay. Sunrise or sunset strolls along the seafront in either direction were gloriously beautiful. Minimal shops. Late opening food shop very useful. Not many places to eat out, but another restaurant was in the process of being built.
Ideal location for exploring the beautiful south of the island. We saw dolphin, seals and wonderful bird life such as chough near Cregneash.

I have been before in August and it was wonderful, but September 24th nothing was open sadly. We could only find one place for coffee. hardly any restaurants to eat in for dinner. Shame for such a lovely place.

As a central location for access to local bus routes or car...
As a central location for access to local bus routes or car hire access it’s great. There is the noise from the airport when it starts it’s day but nothing to disturb a good nights sleep. Ballasalla itself has a local pub and takeaway for local meals. Further north is the capital Douglas or south to the beaches of Port Erin and Port stMary all within 20 minutes drive. To the west up into the hills and Glens to the east Castletown with its own historic castle a town centre wrapped around the harbour . It’s just all so easy.

The Castle was really interesting and well worth a visit.
The Castle was really interesting and well worth a visit. There were some other small museums that were interesting but the man in the maritime ? museum went rambling on too much and we had to leave before we actually saw the boat and the smugglers route. Some pleasant walks along the coast and in the town.

Best location in town if you are arriving by Ferry from other parts of UK. Very good breakfast selection. We had a sea view room and it had views from multiple windows. Everything we wanted to do in the city was within walking distance. Shopping, food & drink establishments were less than 5 minutes walking distance from the hotel. Staff were very friendly and helpful with any questions we had. We will recommend this to all and will stay there on our next visit to IOM.

Really well looked after location - very pleasant stay. Very friendly staff (but from my stay everyone in on the IOM is friendly :-) ).
Very helpful staff. the finish on the hotel was old but very well maintained and you could see that the furniture and finish was made to endure - extremely good care has ben taken in the maintenance of the hotel.
Really well worth the stay and would definitely stay again.
While the apartment isn't brand new and glittering, it was absolutely very clean, comfortable, and really well located, just a 10 minute walk to the main bus stop and some very good restaurants. Yes, the shower door slides open, and the toilet seat is a bit loose, but these were very minor inconveniences for me personally and if I was to return to the IOM,I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.
