This is the best B&B we have stayed in by far from the moment we arrived, we we're blown away by the high quality decor throughout this gorgeous property. It felt like we were in a hotel but had that lovely warmth flowing through, Emma and Graeme were beyond superb with their hospitality. The day started with the most amazing breakfast (warning you are going to need to join a gym when you get home) lovely baked muffins every morning and the best porridge I've ever tasted. The evening meals are of a high quality that you would get from a Michelin star restaurant with the most amazing wines and of course whiskeys. We will return without any doubt the next time we are visiting this lovely island.

The modern stylish luxury accommodation was so easy to get to by ferry or by air as it is right next to the airport but there are only two small planes a day. The drive way is big enough for several vehicles. You can park up to the entrance. The property is very big inside, it is suitable for up to four couples and there would still be space to spare! It is top to bottom luxury and immaculately clean. A wow factor builds from the outside and continues to the upstairs open plan living area and kitchen. There are incredible and expansive views across to the sea. A dining balcony extends from the kitchen /dining area which is stylishly fitted with top end appliances. The bedrooms are luxurious with individual character and access to private balconies. The beds were huge and very comfortable. They have thought of everything! The TVs are all super top end with Sonos sound system and woofer for movie night. Sam was a super professional host, easy to reach if needed. Absolutely stunning place, super peaceful and there was complete privacy. There was even a generous single malt to welcome us. The local Chinese takeaway delivered at the weekend and was very good! Easy access to the 7 mile long beach down the perimeter of the airport in newly laid road. I cannot recommend this location enough, the Best in Islay by far, even beats the Machrie Hotel in my view!

Port Ellen is perfect for whisky lovers.
Port Ellen is perfect for whisky lovers. There are many great distilleries in walking distance (Port Ellen, Ardbeg, Lagavulin, Laphroaig and soon another one) and many more by bus or taxi (but taxis are sometimes hard to get and there is no Uber available).

BOWMORE is a good town to make it your base "camp" to go...
BOWMORE is a good town to make it your base "camp" to go around to visit the distilleries. It meets your basic needs for restaurants, grocery store, pharmacy, post office and a place to get gas. The people were friendly and helpful. For us during our time period for the visit, there was a big street repaving project going on which made the streets very rough to drive on - I believe that this improvement should be finished now.
We enjoyed our visit here. The one piece of advice that I would make - is to make reservations for dinner at any place you want to eat at.

There is a short but pleasant walk of just over half a mile to the little lighthouse on the coast north of the town. The local museum is small but well worth a visit. The locals are friendly and helpful. It's a good jumping off point for visiting sites like Finlaggan Trust and the Cultoon Stone Circle and places like Portnahaven (we saw seals cavorting there). The food at the Port Charlotte Hotel is splendid.

Bridgend is located about 15 minutes from the ferry terminal in Port Askaig (Islay). The town is centrally located to both the Northern and Southern distillery districts. If you are not a whisky enthusiast, birdwatching, hiking, and great scenery are only a short drive away.

Islay is a beautiful place, we could have spent another week there to fully enjoy the island and the locale. We were focused on whiskey (uisge beatha) but also enjoyed local walks, the woolen mill and local restaurants.
Booking is recommended for any meal you're eating in a restaurant. Also if self catering - there are only a couple of Co-op stores (no big supermarket). You can feed yourself but choice is limited.

Pubs/bar - try all of them (only 3 if including Sea Salt Bistro). I only had time to visit one and chose unwisely - the Ardview Inn and wasn't impressed (only a snapshot - maybe depends on the staff at the time) and LOCAL Finlaggan beer there was £2 more than other pubs and inns I visited in the island (over £7 vs £5 elsewhere!) But it's good beer - buy it at the Coop or another pub.
Views beautiful from the harbour front. Use the Coop and make your summer picnic on one of the four benches provided. The town up keep is good. Clearly looked after by all involved including local council.
3 mile whisky trail. Get bus back from Ardbeg. But do check out the 4m plus standing stone near Portintruan.

Great little village with the friendliest people throughout.
Great little village with the friendliest people throughout. 3 very good restaurants within walking distance. Bus runs from here to Portnahaven in the South and to the main other towns (Bowmore/Port Ellen) though ends at 6pm. For food, drink and friendly chats recommend The Port Charlotte Hotel, also the live music Sunday & Wednesday. Lochindaal Seafood Kitchen excellent seafood from a short menu. Worth a walk to Port Mor Community Cafe for breakfast.

Went for New Year 2022-23. Definitely need a car to get about. Locals are so friendly, helpful and welcoming. Not much open due to Festive period. 15 min drive to Coop in Bowmore or the shop at Bridgend 7mins was open. The weather was lovely and there are some lovely walks and wildlife to be seen. If looking for ancestors there are plenty of graveyards to be visited on Islay. LOL.
