Shepherd's Loft, a property with a garden, is set in Benson, 27 km from Notley Abbey, 35 km from Cliveden House, as well as 39 km from Dorney Lake. Everything was perfect. We have spent approx 60 days in hotels etc in the last 12 months. This is by far the best. A real home from home. An incredible location and the perfect hosts. The loft itself oozes comfort and coziness. We immediately felt at home. The unexpected little extras that are left on arrival are very generous but above all very thoughtful. The hosts really have thought of everything. The biggest compliment I could pay this place would be to say that if I won the lottery I would book myself in for 6 months. That’s how much we enjoyed it.

It was a great little flat, very central and perfect for getting around the ancient town. And the host was there literally in 5 mins when I had a request. Highly recommended

The Railway Inn is a traditional pub and restaurant offering delicious home-cooked food and bed and breakfast accommodation. Staff are lovely ..food is good, and it's a great place to stay all round.
We likked the situation for its quietness and seclusion. It was very spacious and all the amenities were excellent. We were able to visit all the places we needed to within easy reach. Good local pubs. Beautiful scenery.
The town and surrounding areas are a pleasure to visit. The town itself seems to have everything that is required for a relaxing weekend. We attended the Agatha Christie weekend and had a lovely time. Mollies restaurant offered a murder mystery evening which was well organised and the staff and actors of very high calibre. We also attended the Murder Mystery boat trip organised by the local council and this also was of a high standard. We also attended a talk on the history of the writer and visited the museum and a play put on by local children. All in all a very pleasurable experience. Definitely would recommend visiting Wallingford to anyone. We will making further visits in the future.
The name is a little confusing - the property is well outside the village of that name, and we had a slight difficulty in locating it - we don't use satnav. Benson itself, being an operational RAF base, is of interest to plane spotters..... The Croft itself is very pleasant - a crescent of very well to do houses about a mile and a quarter outside Nuffield village, on a quiet lane parallel to the Grims Dyke and Ridgeway. It appears to have changed its name; my 1" OS map shows it as Turners Croft. Beautiful scenery, and lovely bird song in the morning; an excellent base for exploring the lower Chilterns, Thames Valley and National Trust properties. The house is about half a mile from the Ridgeway, making it an ideal base for walkers. There's a lot to see of historic interest, not least Nuffield village's connections with Lorn Nuffield, the founder of Morris and MG Cars. We had meals at the Cherry Tree in Stoke Row, two National Trust properties and the George in Pangbourne; all good food and pleasant environs.
Beautiful picturesque part of England. Nice to get away from busy cities. We attended a World War 2 memorial service for LULU plane crash in Ipsden. Visit to Botley Cemetery where my uncle is buried with crew members. Four RAF, three RCAF. Would have enjoyed longer in Wallingford to explore the town.
Only spent one night in Wallingford as walking the Ridgeway, it was heavy rain through the duration of our stay but looked an nice olde market town. Waitrose was good . Ate out at the Five Little Pigs which was clean and modern but food a bit too over complicated for my taste
There’s loads to see, The antique emporium is always a great wander, we always bag a bargain. Mr Simms sweet shop has some amazing sweet stuff, especially from America and it’s bloody genuine!! , The old post office is always nice for a quick drink and let’s be honest you can’t beat a greggs 🤣🤣however I would highly recommend MOLLIES on the High Street (same side as Waitrose just a few doors down) for an amazing breakfast and a really quirky environment, you need to go cause it’s Amazing! You won’t be disappointed It’s great in the summer there’s festivals including Bunkfest which is always a great weekend and the Boat House opposite the river which is always good value .. We are retired military and have now moved back to the north east but have spent over 25 years living in Oxford,Benson and Berkshire. We still have family there, so this really is a genuine review !!
