The views of the breakwater and Braye Beach are stunning from the Hotel, food at hotel was lovely, taxi service from A1 taxis brilliant, the Indian in town called Nellie Grey was brilliant, wouldnt go back to the Tapas restaurant a couple of doors up from the hotel
Alderney is lovely, ideal for those who like exploring, appreciating social and topographical history, and breathing endless fresh air. Quiet away from (and often in) Town and Braye, friendly in most contexts, great for convivial and informative taxi rides (A1 especially recommended), splendid for walking and cycling. Get the book of suggested walks and find the hidden treasures, such as the Abreuvoir Publique at Ladysmith, the Water Mill and Railway. Get the Alderney Journal or listen in to local radio for events. PJ's is a great café, the Farm Shop sells lovely local produce, but you shouldn't go wrong anywhere for food and drink..
Hotel has a fantastic location and the view from the terrace fantastic. Staff were really great and the service excellent. Alderney is such a great location for a short break with the island providing some amazing walks, all can be done in the day. Real rich history and has one “good” of everything…the Indian restaurant in the principal village (10 min walk) fantastic too….
You'd get fit if you lived here! It is quite hilly. Getting around the island is easy, but would recommend hiring an e-bike, as it is a bit bigger than you think. Beaches are amazing, sea is cold! It's Britain, and the food overall is really good. Fresh fish (Pollack is delicious) and good wine choice. Yes it is expensive, it is an island so most things have to be imported, but is does have its own produce as well. There seems to be a bit of an obsession with war (forts WW2 etc) and it would be nice to have some other entertainment. The tourist office was helpfully unhelpful and not really interested in helping you other than telling you to look at the website or leaflets. So why do they exist then? I would love to have done some boat / wildlife trips but it all seems unorganised and relies on calling Bob on his mobile to see if he going or not? Museum has odd opening hours and is not very exciting. Forts are mainly derelict. There is enough to keep you amused for a few days, but the tourist board could do a lot more to help visitors enjoy the island and all it has to offer. Getting on and off the island is an issue, with limited ferry and air services and no ILS or aircraft that could use it means the slightest fog or rain shuts the airport down. I had a 3.5 hour delay. To sum it up it has the potential to be an amazing place to visit, but misses the mark. Food great, people friendly and welcoming and some amazing views.
An excellent hotel in all respects: location, customer service (every member of staff was friendly and helpful) and comfort. Our first visit to Alderney and loved it, so hope to return and will definitely stay at Braye Beach again.
Greats place, slow pace, lots of biking or walking. Plenty to entertain. If weather was good the beaches are fantastic. Food everywhere was good and fair price for an island where everything has to come in by boat or plane. Unless grown/sourced locally. A perfect place with kids. Great new ceramic painting shop in the high street. Not ideal for small babies but 6yrs plus is fantastic. Have visited museum on our last stay and this was excellent. The Occupation history is good as are the fortifications which you can visit. Good community vibe.
New staff members were very nice. Good cooked breakfast. Great view from rooms at the back of the hotel of St Anne's Church. Great location in the centre of town, close to Alderney Wildlife Trust. Definitely exceeded our expectations.
Alderney
Alderney in general so relaxing and welcoming to guests we had great weather for October. Hired bikes went swimming and good meals out. A little shopping in the few shops. Perfect unwinding weekend.
