The staff was exceptionally friendly and went above and beyond to make our stay great. We went at off-peak season and the uncle who works the front desk doubled as our driver for a day. He suggested we go to Na Pai Hai and Songzalin Monastery-- we had a great time at both places, and he gave us a great rate. The staff went to our rooms to serve hot yaks milk the winter night-- perfect way to end the night especially for my niece, who is six years old. Breakfast is also fantastic, highly recommend the fried noodles.
Super well located in Shangri-la city. We had lots of big luggage and were traveling with a kid, but the hotel helped us with everything including late-night airport transfer, and recommendations on where to eat in the city.

A wonderful welcome by this nice young couple who has beautifully transformed this old, wooden house into an oasis of calm in the old city of Shangrila. Bedding and showering are also very pleasant.

Very warming host Rose was super helpful. The location of the guesthouse was only 5 minutes to one of the main plaza where you can enjoy the nightly communal dances. Many restaurants and shops nearby. only about 15-20 minutes walk to the Dukezong ancient town and Moonlight square.

Beautiful hotel overlooking entire shangri la ancient city. Staff service is exceptional, especially Lhamo, Daisy Zhao and Dragon! They are very helpful and friendly and shared some tips about where to go, and gave free upgrade of my room (birthday treat). The room is very comfortable, and able to request for firmer pillows.

SHANGRI LA is a must destination.
SHANGRI LA is a must destination. Actually Yunnan Province is a must. Every town is so beautiful and exotic.. a dream for the eyes and for the photographers! 3 days per town is a minimum, there is so much to see and the people are really friendly... We could have stayed a week in Shangri La alone, just to be able to explore the area more extensively. We'll definitively shall return!

For me this place is over rated .
Firstly this place is very much " designed" to attract tourism. If it is not for the unique temples , buildings and old villages of the Tibetian, their religion influence internal and to the community there which existed many decades ago, the Nepahai Plains, ShangriLa has not much to offer for tourist. Many business commercialise focuses on food and local delicacies.
There are not many heritage location or attractive places to visit. While good natural reserves like Pudacao National Park, a big part of it have been largely closed to visitors.
Quite disappointed .

My experience was of the old town mostly and two excursions one to a local monastery and the other to a national park Potatso about half hour away. The old town is pedestrian so that was good. People friendly. Plenty of food choices. Free join in dancing in town square at night. Streets clean.
Plenty of taxis to get around.
