Our room in this modest inn had just been redecorated and was clean and appealing, with a small kitchen, dining table and chairs and large comfortable beds in two separate rooms. The inn had many attractive touches, including potted plants. We could tell that the staff and management was working hard to make it comfortable and attractive.
An on-site restaurant is featured at this centrally located Duncan motel. A microwave and fridge are offered in each room. Free Wi-Fi is provided. Victoria city centre is 50 minutes’ drive away.

The service was exceptional! We had a problem getting there on time. As a result we needed to call for someone to come check us in. It was 2 o'clock in the morning. The night watchman was kind enough to allow my husband and I to come in and wait in the lobby as it was cold and snowing outside. Due to the late hour I had woken the lady that came to our rescue. She was absolutely great! Checked us in, and was training the night watchman for future services at the same time. We came over for a celebration of life the following day and this lady took her time offering her condolences etc. And again in the morning when we had to check out. I'm sure we'll be staying here every time we travel to the Duncan area, as we already have a few times in the past. But this particular management...she knows how to treat people and gave us every courtesy considering I got her out of bed to come over in the middle of the night. The overall cleanliness of the room was also exceptional. Some places we've stayed have been... a bit scary to say the least.

Location to totem poles is excellent - 10 minutes walk, however part of the road is not paved which could be scary for some because of the volume of traffic. Staff went beyond the call of duty to ensure our stay was as stress free as possible.

Great location since it is very close to the ferry terminal that takes you to Salt Spring Island and Crofton is also close enough to Duncan.

It was a rainy cold day with low overhead clouds. The sea was gray. The streets were wet. The air was chilly in the morning. We walked along the water to the bakery. It was open early for coffee and a treat sitting there in the outdoor patio we watch locals come and goas they got ready for their Saturday morning. Would probably like to go back when the weather is better.

There were many restaurants & shops in the town a short drive from the retreat, we drove all around the island & the scenery is really beautiful. The island is not busy & the ferry ride over was on time and very convenient.

On a golfing vacation. Lovely place. Duncan Meadows golf course was good. Great people and nice play. Dinner at Mr Mike's and fabulous steak with lobster bearnaise cooked perfectly with great servers. Beautiful weather and got lots of overhead eagles while golfing.

Very attractive and welcoming town.
Very attractive and welcoming town. It could do with providing more places of interest to visit, such as a museum, children's play facilities, and other visitor places that explain the island history etc. Lack of public transport to other areas of the island makes Ganges less than than suitable for visitors without a car.

It is a small community but the shops and restaurants around the bay are very good. There is an excellent yoga studio in Duncan, about 10 minutes away. It is called the Vancouver Island Yoga School and I went every day during my stay. There is a wonderful cafe called the Garage right next to it that serves lots of gluten free options. Super affordable and delicious.

Duncan is best experienced outside of town for trails lakes and nature in general. Try an AirBnb. There are a few within 20 minutes or so from town in beautiful settings. To Eat, go to Romeo's. I had one of the award winning pizzas, and it didn't disappoint

Ganges is a very busy little town in the tourist season, with heavy traffic and tons of tourists and locals. Many lovely shops, but too many people in town. I wouldn't recommend Saltspring for cycling, although we did see people cycling - but roads are narrow and windy, and busy. We weren't cycling, but I grew up there and know that the roads are not good for bikes.
It is definitely better to go to Saltspring in the off-season. It is an expensive place to visit, particularly in tourist season.
A drive up Mount Maxwell is definitely worth it for the amazing views of Sansum Narrows, Cowichan Bay, Fulford Valley and other Gulf Islands - go with a 4 wheel drive, and not towing anything, or in an RV - road too bumpy and narrow, much of it only 1 lane.

Great little hidden gem - perfect when you’re doing the Pacific Marine Circle drive! Pool was great, the view is jaw-dropping, and the Cook and Butcher restaurant in the hotel is really high quality!
Hotel could use a little update, but it’s such a gem of a spot, the decor is easy to forgive.

Sadly, this town seems quite depressed, with little that was visually appealing, and many homeless folks wandering the streets. Seems to be a good jumping point, to get fuelled up, get groceries, do laundry etc, before continuing to stay elsewhere.

We felt that Salt Spring was over rated.
We felt that Salt Spring was over rated. The ferry was expensive $58 return, and the roads were in poor condition. Ganges was packed, as was Fulford, and finding a space to park was not easy. Ganges has quaint shops and friendly people, and the boats in the harbor are pretty.
It rained whilst we were there, so going for a good walk was out of the question. The Saturday Market starts in mid April and I'm sure it will be mass congestion from then on until the fall.
