Featuring air-conditioned accommodation with a private pool, pool view and a balcony, CentralCity “Paradise” Private Mini Resort & Pool is located in Belize City. Felt like a homestay. Owner lives next door and is a wonderful host. The house is in great location for walking to good restaurants on the river. The house had everything we needed and the deck and pool are great for hanging out.
If you like physical activity--tubing, hiking--this a a great place for you to go.Belize is somehow in transition. They have "tourist-cized" many of their natural wonders into "fun" events, but they have not focused on the history. The city seems to cater to the cruise ships, a pretty awful entity, but one that can pay the bills. I had the feeling much of what I saw was a facade. This diverse country is irrevocably beautiful but, to me, it has been "Kardashianed" or is somewhere on the road to having that done to it. This is unwise, but it is what we have in this world right now. The people are beautiful, even the unscrupulous cab drivers and one young "guard" at the ferry terminal. I liked the country, but I will not return.
I love the restaurant Celebrity it's close to the Belize Museum on Regent street which was a former prison. The food is excellent. It's very easy to get around Belize city by taxi. We paid a taxi 10 BZ dollars to take us from the bus terminal to the Museum that's about 5 US. I called the chauffeur later on in the afternoon to take us to town and we were dropped at the park in the center of town. We walked around the park and sat on a chair under a tree, we visited the inner stores on Albert street. What I like about Belize, there are restrooms every where and the people are friendly. You can ask them anything they will help you out. We walked on the market on Saturday, got some hot bread by the bakery and coffee next door. I loved Altun Ha. Our guide was arranged by the guesthouse Casa de Shangri-La.
I have to say, Belize City is my least favorite part of Belize. It's dusty and messy. Maybe I should've dug deeper into everything it can offer, but I only spent a few days there. I prefer all other areas of Belize over the city.
I found Belize City to be welcoming to me. Citizens of Belize City were friendly and welcoming. Everyone was helpful and pleasant. I found Belize City Citizens respectful and willing to help when asked. Street vendors were fair and a few were pushy. The food was excellent in flavor and appearance. Definitely bring and use mosquito repellent on exposed skin including your face. I forgot to spray hands and wrist after washing my hands. My last day I got 3 mosquito 🦟 bites eating at an outdoor restaurant. Two bites on my right wrist and one bite on my left wrist. My favorite non alcoholic drink was a frozen watermelon 🍉 daiquiri with jalapeño. Yummy - Luca's, Midtown and Tantino’s restaurants made them very good 😊.
Belize is a country with much to offer, from excellent cuisine and superb beachfront restaurants to wonderful excursions like Old Belize, the Governor's House, and its various museums. It's also the starting point, just an hour away, for Mayan temples, Caribbean beaches, and the Cayes islands, where you can take excursions to explore the marine life of the Great Barrier Reef.
We did not stay in Belize City, but out in Burrell Boom. It is a bit out of the way, but very peaceful. Our destination was Punta Gorda, so we used Kenny’s shuttle service to get there. What a great experience, seeing the area on the way, with a bathroom stop half way. Very comfortable trip.
