As the Bunkhouse dates from the 1950s, its ambience matches its name. It has an honest rustic feel reminiscent of the time when Cooma was the headquarters of the bustling Snowy Mountains Scheme. And when going to the Snowy for a skiing holiday wasn't just the preserve of the well healed. I was given a very friendly welcome from Daniel in reception. My room had all the creature comforts required while still with the old school vibe. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom nicely renovated. The Bunkhouse would perfectly suit anyone on a budget looking for cheap and cheerful accommodation. Not for those looking for a romantic getaway, or a Grand Designs experience, but it doesn't pretend to be. Also, it's very close to town and its many eateries and watering holes. And being far enough away from the main road, it's very quiet at night. The old school heater with plumbed in hot water looks like it would keep you warm on a freezing winter's night. The addition of a toaster as well as microwave and electric kettle is another bonus.
