As the Bunkhouse dates from the 1950s, its ambience matches its name. It has an honest rustic feel reminiscent of the time when Cooma was the headquarters of the bustling Snowy Mountains Scheme. And when going to the Snowy for a skiing holiday wasn't just the preserve of the well healed.
I was given a very friendly welcome from Daniel in reception.
My room had all the creature comforts required while still with the old school vibe. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom nicely renovated. The Bunkhouse would perfectly suit anyone on a budget looking for cheap and cheerful accommodation. Not for those looking for a romantic getaway, or a Grand Designs experience, but it doesn't pretend to be.
Also, it's very close to town and its many eateries and watering holes. And being far enough away from the main road, it's very quiet at night.
The old school heater with plumbed in hot water looks like it would keep you warm on a freezing winter's night.
The addition of a toaster as well as microwave and electric kettle is another bonus.
The Berri Bubble Lodge is situated in Berridale, 23 km from Lake Jindabyne, 36 km from Snowy Hydro Discovery Centre, and 49 km from Ski Tube.

It's around the middle of Cooma and Jindabyne.
It's around the middle of Cooma and Jindabyne. So, if you don't like the crowds and want a piece of serenity, then this is a good alternative. Not too far from either Cooma or Jindabyne. Even though it doesn't have a convenience of a big town but it's only a short and scenic drive to one

We caught the train to Canberra then a coach link to Cooma.
We caught the train to Canberra then a coach link to Cooma. We got off the bus and were so happy to see the town of Cooma. There was plenty of shops and cafes as well as within walking distance from the Motel. We were going there to visit the snowy mountains and had made reservations for the Cooma coaches to transport us to the snow slopes each day. That was easy! On a budget the whole trip was so enjoyable and I cant wait to do it all again!

No coffeeshop for breakfast .No restaurant. Very small place.
Avoid ! Snowdream Motel Room 6 (1 Queen, 6 bunks, no heating in bathroom, threetimes broken showerscreen, old furniture, outlook of window on rubbish and wood. Owner Michael did not have the reservation by booking. Reception closed until evening, 19.00 hrs. No Wifi due to works. We have a business to attend to, Wifi was precondition to book as advertised.
We had booked and paid for 1 week because our daughter lives there, but we left after one night and moved to Jindabyne, asking booking for a refund. So far no answer.

Beautiful Town, a visit to Mount Gladstone early morning to see the district and some snow.
The fantastic Correctional Facility Museum crammed with a lot of information, run well by the delightful staff there.
Raglan Gallery
I missed going to Charles Davis gallery which is something to do next time. Great breakfast at 123 Cafe. Lunch with a friend at the Ex-servicemen's club ...delicious food and very friendly staff.
The drive to Cooma is also delightful. I would like to have done the Railway museum but it is open on Tuesdays Wednesdays and Saturdays (next time). A shame the rail is still not operating ...Love Cooma...so much more to do.

We had not spent much time in Berridale in the past, tending to head to the alpine attractions. This time, we took the time to look around, and walking was a good way. Our accommodation was at the edge of town, and we appreciated the rural outlook.

Good stop over town or place to stretch your legs.
Good stop over town or place to stretch your legs. Has a lovely historic town walk, great cafes, bakery and the pub is good too. Some good clothes shops, craft shops. Not to forget the historic Cooma Gaol is still in use. A picnic on the Murrumbidgee River and walk along the river is always worth it.
