I loved the rooms. So nice, new, small and clean :) they really surprised me. We also had a little balcony. We could leave our car next to our room. The bed and linens were one of the comfiest I've ever had! The receptionist didn't really talk about anything so I can't say whether they were nice or not. It was a casual check in.

The property was amazing! It was well equipped and beautifully furnished with multiple living spaces and outdoor areas to enjoy. The inclusion of the golf buggies was fantastic and meant we were able to start exploring the moment we arrived.

Hamilton Island is a stunningly beautiful place.
Hamilton Island is a stunningly beautiful place. Yes, it is a little expensive but it is an island of resorts and luxury so you need to expect this. The days are filled with outdoor activities, eating delicious food and drinking cocktails so early nights are not a problem. The Cruise Whitsunday adventure was great and included morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea. The waterways and snorkeling were terriffic !! It was a little disappointing that the Sailing club was closed on a Sunday.

Lovely place to just stop and relax, with smaller numbers than most resorts, no children and no motorized water sports, but it does need some TLC if it wants to keep its 4* rating. Getting there should be discounted if you are staying there vs visiting for the day. The day trippers tended to take over a bit so I think they should charge more for this. The restaurant serves lovely fresh food and the staff are very friendly and helpful, if somewhat transient. Was disappointed no spa service was on offer while we were there due to staffing issues.

Small island with limited numbers allowed.
Small island with limited numbers allowed. Good for relaxing few days. Family friendly. Weather was perfect. Restaurant food to a high standard.
Buffet dinner not good. Gym needs aircon. Southern end of island not renovated after cyclone. In saying that the other pool areas seemed sufficient.

Shute Harbour is quiet, beautiful and has a terminal for trips to the islands and the reefs. It offers no shops or restaurants but by car either your own or ridesharing, or reasonable bus service, one can get to such facilities with little trouble - only 10 km to Airlie Beach, which is of course much noisier and more of a party place.

Loved the island experience, made all the better as we had beautiful weather. We ate in half the time and also enjoyed fish and chips, a tavern meal and a dinner cruise.
So easy to get around in the buggies, but could walk to icecream or coffee.
Enjoyed the pool at the villas but also used the pools at the beach area.

There are two resorts in the island.
There are two resorts in the island. Palm Bay is the lesser expensive one, Elysian the more up market. Getting there is very easy from Schute Harbour, only 30 minutes. There are a few good hikes on the island.

Only stay 1 night!
Only stay 1 night! You’ll want to leave after one night unless you like having absolutely nothing to do!!
The kangaroos all over the island were super friendly and made the trip enjoyable. The resort itself felt like you’d gone back in time 20years. Staff were slow and everything took much longer than you’d hope. The grounds in some areas needed a lot of love / some of the lounge chairs near the pool were placed in dirt and were in direct sun, with no shade. It just felt run down and lacking. The pool itself was quite nice. I would only recommend a one night stay as there isn’t much going on.
Negatives
$30 for two small servings of takeaway chips
$5 for a Mars bar from the Lolly shop that was stale
2x Ping pong tables but only one ping pong ball!
Volleyball court but no ball
Lounge chairs in dirt and in direct sun
Cruise Whitsundays ferry transfer unreliable- they prioritise reef guests and if they have no capacity, you have to wait for next service. Some services are cancelled on you without you knowing. We had to wait two ferries before actually leaving the island, which was very frustrating!!
Lack of options for dining

There is no town at Shute Harbour, only, well, a harbour.
There is no town at Shute Harbour, only, well, a harbour. This is serviced by a good road and a bus from Airlie Beach, but the location is quite remote. This means it is very peaceful and calm, but you will need to plan ahead for meals and shopping.

It's a beautiful remote island with nothing but a resort on there. Great to disconnect from the busy city life. There's nature activities to do such as bush walks, and if you're staying at the Palm Bay resort you can hire kayaks, snorkelling equipment and stinger suits for free.
