Just 250 metres from Zenko-ji Temple, Matsuya Ryokan offers simple Japanese rooms with tatami-mat floors, a green-tea maker and an attached Western bathroom. The hotel features public baths. Most perfect location you could imagine!!! It is such a beautiful area full of japanese style buildings and the "vibes" are truly amazing! Also lots of great street foods, temple nearby and still close enough to the Station. Staff was super kind and we got a little sweet treat every day which was very tasty. The onsen was great too and our room was also perfect! It was clean, enough room and felt very authentic to us. Would definitely stay here again!

We had the best night of rest after 2 days hike in Nagano. Super host with super comfort, we plan to come back again and stay longer next time, there is so much to explore and to do around the area!

This was such an unforgettable experience. We were supposed to stay for just one night but ended up staying 4! Okay, from the beginning. We had different accommodation in Hakuba, but we weren’t satisfied so we were looking for something else and found Dark Horse by chance. The moment we walked into the house, we were greeted with smiles and warmth. Andy, Rika, Momo and Hana create something truly special. We’ve stayed at hundreds of hotels and such, but this one will stay in our hearts for a long time. Everything is well thought out, you can see it’s taken care of down to the smallest detail, you can see it’s done properly and not just to be the cheapest. We felt so beautifully hosted. They also have an amazing sake collection to try, and the food is delicious too. Thank you again and we already miss it. I hope we’ll get the chance to meet again. PS. If you’re wondering whether to book a room at Dark Horse, don’t hesitate!​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

The hotel staff are very friendly and welcoming plus they responded very promptly whenever we have any needs via chat. Lastly, the shuttle provided by the hotel was unforgettable that brought us to the restaurants and the parks. I wish I could come back again during the snow season.
