The location is perfect with a gorgeous view overlooking the sea and the nearby beach and its bay. The large balcony with the outside kitchenette, with a table and chairs plus two armchairs to relax. The personnel really nice, front desk and cleaning staff. The soothing sound of tiny frogs at night and the visits of small lizards 🦎 on the balcony were plusses.

The location was perfect for exploring Grande Terre. The rooms were lovely; the pool area divine. The breakfast (and the dinners) were great value, served with attention and care. The hosts were absolutely wonderful, helping us to plan our two weeks in Guadeloupe, and showing great patience with our limited language skills (primarily English, with only a bit of French.) When our travel plans to Marie Galante were disrupted, their help was essential to keeping our vacation on track.

It’s very clean and well-maintained. Maintenance was there every day checking things. The staff were wonderful from check-in to check-out.

The setting was exquisite. The lush and diverse garden and surrounding decor made for a very zen experience. The hosts were an optimal combination of attentive and discreet. We spent a delightful 6 days at La Bougainvillier Blanc in late January. We have poor French-language skills but we managed quite well, aided by a translation app on our phone (you need lots of data - 50 MB). We deliberately didn’t rent a car - that worked because we like walking. If that’s not your preference, you’ll have an easier time with a rental. Our favourite places were the larger local beach, Plage Caraibe, (great snorkelling at the north end) which was about 5 km away, and the Chute de Acomet, a beautiful little waterfall with lots of little pools downstream, which was 7.5 km away. That made for some long walks with some significant hills. Fortunately, there is also a local transport system available which made it easy to get to the other nearby beach (Plage de Petite Anse). Hitch-hiking is considered normal. Good local maps are free at the tourist office. Our gracious host Lucien has a wonderful little swimming pool at the guesthouse, so an end-of-day swim was part of our routine. The trickiest part for us was dinner – we tried to get back to La Bougainvillier Blanc by sunset to avoid walking in the dark, but most restaurants only opened later. We worked around this by eating a large late lunch (good choices at the beaches), eating at the one restaurant that opened at 17:00 (An Ba Tol La), or else making our own dinner in our well-equipped kitchen. If you have a car, there are at least 3 good restaurants close by. Pointe-Noire is not a tourist town so most shops close in the afternoon. Some useful shops that are open most of the day are along the main road (N2) – there are two pharmacies in the centre of town, and a large grocery ((Carrefour Express) and a good bakery/coffee shop on the southern half of town. We weren’t looking for a lot of tourist activities – just a quiet, peaceful time with low-key, interesting things to do each day. La Bougainvillier Blanc and Pointe-Noire were perfect for that.
