Hotel has a long and interesting history with a public library. The redeveloped properties are so stylish in decor and room size is good enough with private bath. Staff are very helpful and offered us a welcome drink. Our package is half boarded and it is a great surprise to have a western menu of local ingredients. The restaurant is nicely decorated. It is open kitchen with wood fired stove. The dish presentation is very nice and food quality is superb. Souvenir shop inside Alps Bakery are selling nice goods, cutlery, crockery. It is a very pleasant stay for 5 of us. I would recommend people visiting Matsumoto to try this modern onsen hotel.

We have traveled to Japan many times, but this was our first time staying at a ryokan and it was so much more than we anticipated. Every staff member was so friendly, kind, and spoke English. We booked a corner suite with a private onsen. As others have mentioned, the check-in process is very individualized and leisurely. We were asked to sit down, they brought manju and tea, and a staff member (Reimi) explained everything to us. Reimi also escorted us to the suite and provided more information about it and the onsen. Dinner and breakfast were outstanding with multiple courses at each meal. Even though food is served in their dining hall, each party has it's own partitioned eating area (with shoji doors). Our son didn't feel well toward the end of dinner and missed dessert. We were surprised that our server saved his dessert and presented it to him at breakfast. As we checked out, the manager gifted us with temari ball trinkets. If you are visiting Matsumoto, Nagano I would highly recommend staying over night at Hotel Tamanoyu.

Location is within walking distance to Matsumoto castle and 20m walk from the station. Rooms are clean, well lit and felt luxurious to me with dimmable lights and a big TV. Had a really comfortable stay and staff were good, let me leave my bag the next day and provide nice toiletries.

Very clean and comfortable rooms, the owner cooks amazing food and took excellent care of us. He even showed us around town as we didn’t have a car, told us a bit about the towns history and was kind enough to take us to the train station when we left. 10/10 will be coming back if I get the chance!

Value for money, cosy hotel with small but clean and adequate room. Great for airport transfer in Matsumoto because it’s very short distance to the airport. Service and (paid) breakfast are very good. Highly recommended!
